The Cooke e-Learning Foundation - using ICT to help community regeneration
The Cooke e-Learning Foundation - using ICT to help community
The Cooke e-Learning Foundation was formed as a registered charity in September 2005 and works in an active partnership with Babington Community Technology College
and Cooke Optics (Thurmaston. Leics).
The charity was established to encourage families to use IT to embrace the principles of lifelong learning. We work with further education and employers to strengthen pathways into employment and liaise with local schools and families to support children’s learning at home.
The Foundation works with an international software company and uses interactive software to improve people’s self confidence and the quality of spoken English for non-English speakers. Our prime aim is to use IT to help accelerate social integration within the city of Leicester. We train local residents to become community mentors to support other people in their own community.
The charity has been funded by Leicester City Council through the SRB6 Belgrave Heartlands regeneration project and Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. We have also received grants from the Lloyds TSB Foundation, The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Awards for All, UKonline and The Leicester Learning Partnership.
